IRAN-CONTRA SCANDAL BROUGHT DRUGS INTO AMERICA?

During the period of 1983-1988 during the Regan administration. The United States was involved in a largely publicized political scandal, dubbed the Iran-Contra Scandal. During this period of time the United States was in this operation to increase relations with Iran. It began where Israel would ship small amounts of weapons to Iranian groups that were opposed to the Ayatollah, the U.S would reimburse Israel for the weapons, and in turn Israel would pay the U.S for the weapons. With the Hezbollah holding U.S hostages, the U.S. Government ended up trading arms for hostages, without the authorization of Ronald Regan. This is where the scandal began.
With the profits being made from the sale of weapons to Israel, the U.S. Government was funding anti-Sandonistas (Contras) in Nicaragua. President Regan appeared on National television announcing that the U.S. was not involved in the trade of weapons for hostages. However, a few months later he came back and said, also on National television, that apparently the facts point towards the fact that the U.S. did in fact trade weapons for hostages. It really hurt President Regan and frankly, made him look like a fool, being that his administration was involved in these actions without him even knowing. Check out the video...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHXq8TRejow .
More scandals evolved when evidence that the Contras were not only receiving funding from the U.S. gun sales, but also from drug trafficking. The Contras were involved in bringing large amounts of cocaine into the U.S. coincidentally at the same time there was a huge crack epidemic in the U.S. and specifically in Los Angeles. Evidence was later released and an executive summary was produced as a result of their investigation, proving that the CIA had knowledge of the drug trafficking, and may have even been involved in some of the profits. The executive summary read as follows... "[I]t is clear that individuals who provided support for the Contras were involved in drug trafficking, the supply network of the Contras was used by drug trafficking organizations, and elements of the Contras themselves knowingly received financial and material assistance from drug traffickers. In each case, one or another agency of the U.S. government had information regarding the involvement either while it was occurring, or immediately thereafter." Basically in a short version, the CIA knew that their agents were working directly with Contra drug traffickers and didn't do anything about it.
Yet another scandal that the U.S Government kept under wraps until it blew up in their face, at which point they come out as the "nice guys" apologizing and trying to smooth everyone over.
