Where I came from...

Yes...I am Cuban. Cuban American to be exact. I am the son of two naturalized Cuban American parents. Both my parents were born in a small rural city in Cuba, named Camaguey. Born in the 50's they were both very small when Fidel Castro came to power. As small as they were they remember the excitement, and overall approval of the fact that Castro was going to take over. A few years later they realized this was a huge misconception, and Castro was not the leader Cubans were looking for.

At the age of 22 and 20, my parents decided to take a gamble and come to America, the land of opportunity. After living in Canada for a few years, they made their way to the United States. Living first in Los Angeles, they held 12 hour menial jobs, and made minimum wage. Very sad, considering my mom was a Chemist, and my dad was a Psychologist in Cuba. Coming to the U.S none of their schooling and educational skills proved to matter. This is a dilemma many immigrants that come to America face. They need money to live, so they need to work, and in turn dont have a chance to go back to school. Well, my dad and mom both went back to school and worked at night. Years later, after receiving his Ph.D (while learning English at the same time) my dad started working at retirement home as a Clinical Psychologist. My mom, also, returned to what she knew best, Chemistry. She worked for BASF for many years.

Years and years of hard work, and saving (not spending!) gave my parents the opportunity to open a Medical Clinic for my dad to practice Psychology. His practice specialized in Workers Compensation. At first, it was not producing much income for them, but with persistance, his practice grew and grew. Now he has more than 20 employees (including myself), and runs an extremely successful business in Santa Ana. He has come from nothing (literally nothing but a few gold coins, and two gold necklaces) to becoming a productive, helpful, Doctor, helping individuals with their mental issues. He has over time, been accredited with other labels behind his name, including; D.A.B.P.S, and QME. He has proved that hard work brings success in whatever you do.

You may ask yourself why I have made my introduction based solely on my parents and their acclomplishments. The reason is, they have been an integral part of my life, have always supported me, and have always been sticklers on education. They believe strongly in the idea that education is the reason for their success.

My parents, their upbringing, their struggle, their success, and their old school conservative views on life have inevitably affected my life and consequently my beliefs. I have given this explanation so that as a reader, you can understand why I post certain things, and look at things a certain way. I am not a conservative, but I am also not a liberal, I just want to express my opinion...
